Iverson, out for 6-8 weeks, says “I can say goodbye to basketball”

Has Allen Iverson’s 2010-11 season and/or career been derailed due to a calf injury? Today, a source with the Twitter handle “TurkishHoops” reported thusly:

It’s official now. Allen Iverson is ruled out for 6-8 weeks because of an injury in right calf. He will have a surgery.

Though nothing has appeared on the story on the TBL’s official website as of this writing, speculation that Mr. Answer will in fact retire from the game is naturally running rife on Twitter and in the blogosphere, particularly in light of Iverson’s already oft-repeated comments of last night that “Leaving the basketball world makes me sad but, sometimes, we have to accept things like they are. I can say goodbye to basketball,” he revealed yesterday. “Because pain even made it hard to walk.”

Iverson will return to the United States to undergo calf surgery.
