Iverson says “Expect excitement”; gets 32,000 chanting at Besiktas soccer match

November 9, 2010

Allen Iverson did in fact manage to get out of the Istanbul Airport yesterday, but not before giving his first Turkish television interview.

What should we expect from Iverson? “Just excitement. Excitement for the fans … [it’s] the best opportunity to come out and give them something they’ve never seen before.” He also promised that “before I leave here, I’ll be speaking Turkish.”

Iverson went on to represent the Black-and-Whites at Beşiktaş FC’s Turkish League football match last night against Kasımpaşa, at which the full-throated crowd of 32,000 happily and stridently welcomed Mr. Answer.

Besiktas brass has announced that Iverson will be meeting-and-greeting the fans tonight with a special welcoming ceremony at Cola Turka Arena at 7pm local time (6pm CET, noon EST).
