BallinEurope wins thing, gets intangible badge

October 6, 2017

BallinEurope finally won something at an awards show, it only took 10 years, but woohoo look at the shiny thing we now have. Shiny digital thing. Look at it. It’s shiny yet intangible. Thing, shiny, shiny thing, unfortunately it won’t function as a doorstep or take up room on the mantlepiece. Still, shiny, shiny thing. Winning, well really second loser, but still a kind of winning. Emmet Ryan explains

BiE’s annual night of inevitable disappointment actually wasn’t entirely disappointing this year as we unexpectedly took the bronze medal in the vlog category at Blog Awards Ireland on Thursday night. This despite none of our ‘Smokin’ Emmet Ryan’ Periscope videos counting. When we entered, smoking analysis wasn’t something we had done and all the stuff in our entry pointed to our YouTube page. Given this was an awards show with corporate sponsors it’s probably just as well we didn’t try to push the ‘journalist having a smoke between games’ element of our coverage.

Big thanks to all of our visitors, readers, friends, drinking buddies, and all the rest for your support along the way.

Of course this is an excellent time to suggest you subscribe to our YouTube channel.

The timing certainly helped, getting the guts of 29k views on a video of Anthony Randolph during the judging phase was fortunate, and we never expected to have a chance in this category. The big hope was in sports where, once again, we came out empty handed yet again. We’ve made the final of sports every year and still have nowt to show for it. That stings folks, that stings.

Still, rejoice, because we finally got something for our efforts. A jpeg is a start. Hoping to get a doorstop by next year.
