Ben Gordon has been selected for the British National Team

April 1, 2008

So is it now an April’s Fool or not, at least the BBC is reporting that Ben Gordon from the Chicago Bulls has been put on the 33-man list for the qualification of the 2009 Eurobasket.

Chris Finch, the head coach that brought the British National Team to Division A selected 33 players from all around the world to compete for Britain’s glory. Here is what BBC is writing.

British Basketball officials will meet Gordon in Chicago in the next two weeks after receiving encouraging signs that he was interested in the programme.

Men’s coach Finch hailed the 33-man squad, which will be cut down to 15-20 for a training camp in May or June, as “our best-ever group”.

“Our challenge now is to identify the best 12-14 players who will give us a shot at winning through to Poland 2009,” he added.

“As ever, our success will be largely influenced by the commitment these outstanding players make to the programme.”

Now, if this is an April’s fool, I don’t think so but it is great news for the team. Great Britain will play its qualification in a group with Bosnia-Herzegovina, Israel and Czech Republic so that the chances to see them in Poland are not too bad.

If you check the preselection well, you already think on a Starting Five with Mike Lenzly-Ben Gordon-Luol Deng-Pops Mensah-Bonsu and Daniel Clark. Not too bad…

The starting five would have Andrew Betts or Suliivan or even Joel who is playing in Spain than Daniel Clark.. I think :)..
