Check out the game ball for EuroBasket 2015

February 23, 2015

We could write a really long post telling you about the aesthetics of the ball for EuroBasket 2015, which was unveiled today, or we could just re-post the press release after a snarky intro. I’ve got work today, no prizes for guessing the route we’re going.

Here’s the official release:

Molten, in collaboration with FIBA, are proud to unveil the exclusively branded EuroBasket 2015 ball.

In honour of the event, Molten have exclusively branded their newly designed GL7X ball, incorporating the superhero elements of the logo and the colours of the four host nations into the design of the ball.

Following on from the success of 2014 that saw Molten produce a basketball exclusively branded for the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain, this marks the first time that the partnership has been extended to include the balls used in a continental championship.

Commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the introduction of Molten’s proprietary 12-panel GIUGIARO design basketball, the GL7X is the newly remodelled version of the GL7 and will feature improved consistency of touch and enhanced visibility.

In acknowledgement of FIBA’s ever-increasing social media presence, the ball will also be branded with the FIBA Twitter handle, @FIBA.

Whilst the ball will only be made available for sale to the general public in June, FIBA followers on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Chinese social media platform Sina Weibo, will have the opportunity to win EuroBasket-branded versions of the ball beginning on Monday.

“With the unprecedented decision to hold tournament games in four different host countries, EuroBasket 2015 has become one of the most anticipated events in European basketball history,” explained Molten Corporation CEO Kiyo Tamiaki.

“In an effort to highlight this milestone, Molten is introducing a new design for the Official Game Ball. Inspired by the flag colours of the host countries and the EuroBasket tournament logo, it is our hope that this vibrant design will add to the excitement surrounding this important event.”

“With four different host countries for the first time ever, EuroBasket 2015 promises an unprecedented level of excitement,” FIBA Europe President Turgay Demirel said. “This design by Molten captures the uniqueness of this tournament, and I can’t wait to see this ball in the hands of the world’s greatest players in September.”

“The fact that Molten is producing an exclusively branded ball for EuroBasket, speaks highly of the calibre and regard in which the tournament is held, not only in Europe, but worldwide,” commented FIBA Regional Director Europe, Kamil Novak.

EuroBasket 2015 will take place from 5-20 September, with tickets to all venues now on sale.
