Colbert and Boone claim Irish MVP titles

The Irish basketball end of season awards have been announced with Lehmon Colbert of UCC Demons and Jazmen Boone of WIT Wildcats taking the top honours

Fresh off claiming a second straight league title as well as the Champions Trophy with C&S UCC Demons, Lehmon Colbert has been named the MVP of the Irish men’s Premier League. The former Jacksonville Dolphins player took the honour after another stellar season where he averaged 22.55 PPG, 12.1 RPG, and 2.75 APG. Sean Flood, of cup winners Templeogue, was named young player of the year while Brian O’Malley of Pyrobel Killester was named coach of the year.

The women’s MVP award went to Jazmen Boone of WIT Wildcats. Boone, a graduate of the College of William & Mary, averaged 22.28 PPG and 16 RPG over the course of an impressive campaign. Amy Ward of Singleton’s Super Value Brunell was named young player of the year while Mark Scannell of treble champions Team Montenotte Hotel Glanmire was named coach of the year. Scannell is also the head coach of the Irish women’s side at the FIBA Small Countries Championship which begins later this month.
