Statement of humility: Yes, Dirk Nowitzki is the greatest

May 9, 2011

In light of the Dallas Mavericks’ utter immolation of BiE’s beloved Los Angeles Lakers and a certain German big man’s most excellent play in the four-game sweep, BallinEurope hereby wishes to retract any doubts or negativity toward Dirk Nowitzki contained within this article published some time ago.

Humbly does BiE today admit that, championship banner or no – and wow, could the Mavs really face off against Dwyane Wade’s Miami Heat in the NBA Championship again? Weird. – kilo for kilo and all things considered, Nowitzki’s NBA career represents the finest ever put together by a European player, period. As an apology to the man, readers may enjoy the league-produced highlight clip of Dirk’s top 10 plays this season below the break.

(And no, BiE doesn’t want to talk about Pau Whatsisname. Now if you’ll excuse me, i’ve got some slamming of the head to perform upon the nearest wall.)

I would say Nowitzki is better than Pau Gasol . Nowitzki is the only European to win NBA MVP. Although Pau Gasol has the hardware (a gold medal and two NBA championships) he has been on better teams. When Gasol won the gold with Spain that team was able to win the championship game without him. Spain without Gasol placed 6th in last summer’s WC while Germany without Nowitzki placed 17th. When Pau Gasol won the two NBA championships Kobe was hands down the best player on the team. Even when Tony Parker won his championship it could be argued that Duncan was as good or even better than Parker. Yet with Nowitzki he is always the best player on his team. This year the next best player on the Mavs is Jason Terry who is not even an all-star.
