Dirk Nowitzki: Star of court and YouTube

October 21, 2010

For no good reason beyond sheer awesomeness and weirdity, BallinEurope presents a pair of Dirk Nowitzki fan videos which show the big German not only dominates his own game, but that he’s also a true genre-buster.

Surely many of you have heard about (and three or four might even care) about the late November release of “Tron: Legacy,” sequel to the surprisingly somewhat obscure computer flick from the 1980s. How to make this rip-roaring special effects bonanza even cooler? Substitute Dirk for the Dude – with hilarious results.

And since you know Nowitzki is already of superheroic proportions, why not style his early career in superheroic fashion? Drawing on the animation sequence in Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill: Volume I” (which itself was inspired by Japanese films such as “Shurayukihime” and “Blood: The Last Vampire,” Dirk’s origin story is lovingly portrayed in this most excellent YouTube clip.

Enjoy and, as they say in Germany, “Go Mavericks!”
