Preview – Greece vs Italy

September 2, 2022

It’s the third day of EuroBasket 2022 and the second day of action in Group C in Milan. The action concludes with hosts Italy taking on Greece

Where and when?
Mediolanum Forum, Milan, Italy. Tip off is 21.00 CEST, 20.00 BST, 15.00 EST, 12.00 PST

Record to date
Greece 1-0 (Beat Croatia 89-85)
Italy 1-0 (Beat Estonia 83-62)

What the bookies say?
Greece are favoured heavily here at 7/20 while Italy can be found for 22/10. The point spread is -7 in favour of Greece.

What we say
This one has all the makings of a heavyweight prize fight. Greece come in led by Giannis Antetokounmpo who gets to play alongside his brother and Milwaukee Bucks team mate Thanasis and they’ve got serious back court assistance in the form of Tyler Dorsey (Dallas Mavericks) who looked like a star against Croatia.

Italy have a chemistry that is hard to match in this tournament with six players from Olimpia Milano on their roster added to Simone Fontecchio (Utah Jazz) who brought a speed and force to the hosts that hasn’t been seen in some time. His 19 points and 5 assists in 24 minutes understates the impact he had against Estonia.

The pick
I’m really, really, tempted to split the straight up and spread picks here but then I remembered that Greece have a chance for a statement game before the knockout stages. I’m taking Greece plus the points in this one.
