EuroBasket 2025 Guide: Teams, Groups, Predictions and Betting Tips

EuroBasket 2025 is almost here and we've got the basketball betting tips to help you get ready for the big event
July 30, 2025

EuroBasket 2025 begins in late August this year, spanning across four nations in the continent. 24 national teams are set to compete over four weeks in a battle for European supremacy; these four host countries include Cyprus (Limassol), Finland (Tampere), Poland (Katowice), and Latvia (Riga). The hosts received automatic qualifications and will be joined by 20 other teams: Spain, France, Serbia, Greece, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Belgium, Turkey, Czechia, Lithuania, Sweden, Estonia, Georgia, Great Britain, Montenegro, and Iceland, who all secured passage during the qualifying campaigns.

Pooling and Tournament Format

The group phase is broken down into four groups of six. Brackets denote the cities in which these groups will play.

* Group A (Riga): Serbia, Czechia, Latvia, Turkey, Portugal, Estonia

* Group B (Tampere): Germany, Finland, Lithuania, Great Britain, Sweden, Montenegro

* Group C (Limassol): Spain, Greece, Italy, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, Cyprus

* Group D (Katowice): France, Slovenia, Poland, Belgium, Israel, Iceland

All teams face their group opponents, with the two highest-ranked in a group going to the quarterfinals and then knockout rounds until September 14.

Who are the Pre-Tournament Favorites?

According to leading bookies, Serbia sits at the top of the betting boards, along with Germany and France hot on their heels: all previous championship winners and European heavyweights. Spain, champions of 2022, have to come through a tough Group C, which includes Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Greece, as well as other heavyweights Italy and Bosnia & Herzegovina. Bettors can check out reliable betting tips on Sportytrader as we head into the finals.

Threats and Dark Horses

Greece, with Giannis, can crush anyone on their way, and might cause an early upset should they manage to gather momentum. With Luka Doncic at the helm and promising young Euro League stars, Slovenia is a dangerous threat that can make a great upset against any of the top seeds. Italy, which might have naturalized guard Donte DiVincenzo, might turn up the upset-mongers should paperwork be settled. In the meantime, analysts have put their weight behind Slovenia and Serbia as potential dark-horse challengers.

The Best Storylines to Follow

  •         Spain has a tough group where they will play the tapestry of Giannis with Greece, and Italy-not the easiest way to defend a title.
  •         Victor Wembanyama is out, so France starts in transitional mode, banking on depth rather than star power.
  •         Germany, which just won the 2023 World Cup, will be massive favorites in their Group B, particularly against teams such as Lithuania and Great Britain.
  •         The internal shake-up in discipline, including a tougher attendance policy introduced by coach Svetislav Pešić in Serbia, shows that they want to be united before a bid to win a title.

Outlook & Prediction

Serbia, Germany, and France were the early favorites entering EuroBasket 2025. Spain still has what it takes despite finding themselves in the group of death in June. Dark horses such as Greece (captained by Giannis), Slovenia (centered on Doncic), and an arguably improved Italy can upset the odds in the traditional pecking order. With powerful host nations and diverse group dynamics, this edition will not disappoint in terms of drama, star power, and upsets when the teams take to the courts from August 27 to September 14.
