FIBA Eurocup Preview: Proteas AEK EAL Limassol

April 17, 2008

The hosts from Cyprus can be considered as favorites of their own Final Four. Not only that they have the advantage to play at home, but they also have an impressive roster for a team from such a small country.

The team is led by the Serbian forward Milutin Aleksic who is the top scorer, rebounder, stealers and passer of the game. Looks like a pretty skilled player. Personally, I have never heard anything about this guy, so I am pretty surprised about this huge numbers he is averaging in the FIBA Eurocup.

He is supported by the experienced American guard Duan Woodward and by not less than three French players: Ali Bouziane, Karim Sochu and Maxime Zianveni. The last one was the identification guy for SLUC Nancy for years and he wanted to sign somewhere in Europe finally. And lots of people were laughing in France when he signed in Cyprus. Well, Air Max showed all those people that he did the right choice as he can now add another European trophy to the Korac Cup he won with Nancy in 2002.

Well, the Cypriot team also has some local guys in their team. The best scorer is Alexis Liatsos who is also a member of the National Team. But this is not the best reference probably to become the man to decide this Final Four. Still, the very deep bench of Charles Barton’s team should make the difference in the semis against Dexia Mons-Hainaut.
