Greek basketball in 2010-11: Worst season ever?

April 29, 2011

Theo might not agree

While Olympiacos continues to chase history in a story that will be continued tonight against Kolossos Rhodes while seemingly on the way to another memorable finals clash with rival Panathinaikos, some are not so positive about the current state of Hellas’ game. Sport.gr writer Costas Papantoniou gives a rundown of what he calls “the worst year experienced by Greek basketball.” BallinEurope presents a few lowlights as mentioned by Papantoniou below. Surely it can’t be as bad as all that, can it…?

The season of course began with the player strike, about which the best that can be said is that it ended quickly, with the caving-in of certain large clubs. And when some players sought to hold a public protest about the strike, riot police were called in.

Corruption and controversy was no stranger to the league in 2010-11, either; here it is supposed that some were simply using the strike as an opportunity to serve their own interests – kinda reminiscent a bit of the current situation in America’s NFL, as least as far as management is concerned.

Once the season did begin, Olympiacos was forced to serve the penalty handed down by the league after 2009-10’s “night of shame” and thus played several games before empty stands. Plus, the Greek Cup final between Reds and Greens was cancelled due to the impossibility of providing adequate security.

Speaking of empty stadiums, a weird occurrence happened in a game between – or rather, after a game between – Aris and PAOK. While the game was scheduled to be played before no fans, Aris officials lodged a complaint to the league stating that several PAOK fans were actually in attendance (though BiE doesn’t see too many in this photo. The league rejected the claim and did not change a result that affected first-round playoff matchups.

Typical craziness of an Olympiacos-Panathinaikos meeting aside – and the 2010-11 season hosted yet another explosive confrontation – saw perhaps the worst behavior exhibited by fans was when PAO’s Romain Sato of the Central African Republic was taunted with cries of “monkey” two weeks ago during the last meeting this regular season between the two teams.

Finally, Papantoniou laments the lack of competition in Greek basketball at the feet of its two dominant forces. After all, the last five Greek championships have come down to PAO vs. Olympiacos and the Greens have won six of the last eight titles. So how about that Balkan Basketball League thing, then…?

So basically, the Greek League is exactly like the NBA. Good job Greek League on copying the NBA 100%.

Mika, “just like the NBA”? It’s so obvious you haven’t been paying attention to the NBA, which is experiencing one of its best seasons and playoffs ever (not to mention the highest tv ratings in 27 years, which didn’t even happen during the Bird/Magid days) If you were paying attention you’d be knowing that. I know it because, unlike you, I watch the NBA religiously so I know what’s going on and, unlike you, I don’t talk about stuff I don’t know. Can the Greek League claim the same? No, how can you say “just like the NBA”?

Can the Greek League claim to have a boatload of talented, up-and-coming players like the NBA right now? The talent level in the NBA, right now, is at its highest level since at least the early 90’s (and I’m being very conservative on this estimate)..can the Greek League claim the same? No!

Are NBA teams forced to keep fans away from its arenas for security reasons? Do opposing fans fight between each others during its games? No. “Just like the NBA”? LOL

I have seen many Americans calling black players “monkeys” and even worse stuff, but 99,99% of them aren’t NBA fans. They generally are fans of other sports (generally hockey, which is mostly white) who just get a kick out of criticizing NBA players. You can’t fault NBA fans for the actions of non-NBA fans.

Do fans in U.S. arenas call players “Monkeys”. No..and if it happened they surely got banned from the arena since over in the U.S. security is tight and don’t let fans acting like that. So, “just like the NBA”, right?

In the Greek League there are just 2 teams that can legitimately think to win it all, in the NBA there are more than 2 teams that can win it all. There are at least 6 teams left in the NBA conference semis that can win the title this year (Thunder, Mavs, Lakers, Bulls, Celtics, Heat..and there are the Grizzlies who look better than expected and can still beat anyone). So, once again, “just like the NBA”, right?!?!?!?!

I can’t stand people who don’t watch the NBA yet they criticize it by basing their opinions on stereotypes. It’s so obvious some of you can’t handle the fact it’s the most followed basketball league in the world so you have got to criticize it at every turn.

      Watch, then speak.

Again, it’s beyond me how some people (namely Mika and Apollo) felt the need to start hating on the NBA on an article that had absolutely NOTHING to do with it. People are losers.

The NBA, the vast majority of its fans, most of its announcers, and most of its “analysts” are racist towards any player that isn’t black. Extremely racist against any non blacks.

All the “it’s a black man’s game”, “only blacks can play basketball”, “white men can’t jump”, “Euros are all slow, non-athletic, short, weak, soft, white stiffs”, “Euroleague players can’t even touch the rim”, “FIBA goals are only 9 feet tall because the players are so much less athletic”, Euros are soft”, “Euros can’t play defense”, the NBA is a million times better than the Euroleague”, “Team USA only ever loses a basketball game because they didn’t care and didn’t try”………………….

the list is literally endless. This is the typical and constant type of discussion that goes on by NBA marketing, NBA fans, and the “expert analysts” that work for the TV and media partners of the NBA.

Quite frankly, the NBA is easily one of the most blatantly racist organizations in the United States. It definitely qualifies as a black supremacist organization, that is for sure.

So how exactly the comments section of an article about Greek basketball and its problems turned into anti-NBA comments? Don’t understand why some people are so ridiculous and ignorant.

Yes, there are fans and media members who say those things about euro players, thats undeniable..no different than what many european media members and fans say about U.S. players who are constantly stereotyped..so it goes both ways. There are uneducated fans on both sides of the pond and both of them believe (wrongly) to be right.

As far as the claim that “the NBA is easily one of the most blatantly racist organizations in the United States”, this is so ridiculous to a point it’s not even funny. The NBA is widely considered one of the most diverse organizations in the U.S. and it routinely gets an “A” grade since it employs the highest number of minorities among league officials, both at the league and teams levels. It’s, by far and away, the best league in the U.S. under this point of view and it has been recognized for those things several times. So, saying that it’s one of the most blatantly racist organizations in the U.S. just denotes how ignorant you are about this topic. Get your facts straight, thank you.

Also, fans are not part of the NBA itself, you know, since they don’t work for the NBA so the league can’t control their opinion on euro players. Is it that hard to realize?

    http://www.tidesport.org/RGRC/2010/2010_NBA_RGRC%5B1%5D.pdf

Also, there’s quite a difference between calling a player “monkey”, like happened in Greece, and calling a player “soft, weak” etc., don’ t you think.

You’d think there were more educated fans on a blog like this one. Evidently ignorance is bliss and people like running their mouths about stuff they don’t know. Disgusting.

Nice try Andrea, but they won’t be fooled by your logic and facts.

Apollo, I have never heard even half of those comments your list, and I have lived in the US (and followed the NBA in the US) for over 10 years now, which I am going to guess is much longer than you since you have such a skewed view of things.

The only comments I have heard are “Euros are soft,” though this goes hand-in-hand with “Young Euros have much greater skill sets than young Americans” (anti-black racism!?!?!?!), and “Team USA only loses because of lack of interest/lack of time/lack of practice,” which is not at all related to racism in the NBA in general (hey, there are NBA players playing for other countries, too!). It is just good old-fashioned patriotic arrogance — which we saw from fans of every country in Ball in Europe forums last summer (E.g.: SPAIN ONLY LOSES BECAUSE AMERICANS BRIBE REFEREES AND CHEAT).

Incidentally, though, the only comments about European players I’ve heard recently are pretty much, “Marc Gasol is a beast,” “Dirk Nowitzki deserves MVP votes,” “I hope my team drafts Valanciunas/Kanter/Vesely” (from various fans of various team), and, well, okay, “Ginobili and Parker are losing their touch,” but surely that’s not a racist comment 😉

First of all – the NBA is incredibly racist and so are most of NBA fans. Anyone denying that is a fool. There is no pro sports league in the world that is as racist as the NBA, where general managers even openly brag to the media about things like,

“rule #1 is never draft a white guy”.

The NBA is purely racist and so are NBA fans. All you ever hear from NBA fans is that American NBA players are bigger, stronger, faster, taller, more athletic, and physically and genetically superior to European players.

RACIST CODE WORDS for blacks are more athletic and “physically and genetically superior” to whites. From my own personal experience the average NBA fan is as racist as humanly possible. Most NBA fans are pure racist scum.

And, the NBA most certainly is a two team league. So it is funny to see some criticize the Greek Championship for being a two team league, when that is exactly what the NBA is.

The NBA = Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers.

Always has, does now, and always will as long as they continue to do business as usual.

The Greek Championship has been FAR MORE competitive and FAR MORE diverse in terms of the amount of teams that have had successes than the NBA has. Sorry, but anyone that claims the NBA is anything other than a two team league has zero credibility.

You can argue about whatever you want………….but arguing that the NBA is not a two team league does not openly promote racism is to be nothing more than a liar or at least in total denial.

lol A two tier league. The Boston Celtics have won ONE championship in the past 20 years while San Antonio has won four. Not to mention the Heat, Pistons, Bulls, etc…And to say that the NBA in the US is racist against whites is absurd. That’s just coming from the racist Europeans who can’t take it that their national teams keep getting their butts kicked by Team USA which is 90% black.

Thanks, Phileus and Gabe..good to see there are a few fair-minded people out there. Just wish there were more.

Paul (Apollo?), you don’t even know what you’re talking about. Unlike you I follow the NBA very closely so I think to know a thing or two about the league, certainly more than someone like you who probably doesn’t watch much NBA, if any. It’s so frickin’ obvious you haven’t been watching the playoffs this year, because otherwise you wouldn’t be saying it’s just a two-team league. Like I said, Celtics and Lakers played each other in the NBA Finals only twice in the past 25 years or so..and while the Lakers have always been, more or less, competitive in the past decades, the Celtics- with very few exceptions such as in ’02, sucked from the early 90’s until 2008..so claiming the NBA is a two-team league is ridiculous..sure, those two teams won most of any other team, but most of those titles (at least for the Celtics) came in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s so you can’t fault today’s NBA for that..the only exception was the 2008 title.

This year’s playoffs, unlike the Greek League, are wide-open and anything can happen..all of the teams left (with the only exception being the Hawks, in my opinion..and maybe the Grizzlies but they look scary good so it’s not a team that anybody wants to face right now..they’re a wild-card) are very dangerous and certainly capable of beating anybody..so how can you say it’s a two-team league right now is ABSOLUTELY BEYOND ME. You just sound an arrogant european (and I’m european myself) who suffers an incredibly big inferiority complex toward the NBA so you feel the need to criticize them, even in a post like this one that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the NBA….Only somebody with an inferiority complex could do that.

Again, all of those “NBA fans are racist” talk is ridiculous and is not based on ACTUAL FACTS. I’m an NBA fan and I certainly am not a racist. Same goes with the vast majority of other NBA fans I see on blogs, forums etc. And claiming the NBA is racist against europeans is ridiculous. The NBA keeps highlighting the fact (on its site, on facebook, twitter etc.) they have countless international players on their rosters and the league has sites for several european countries, such as NBA.com Italy, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Greece etc…not to mention the fact they are extremely invested in promoting their game in places like Europe, so in order to do that they certainly can’t be racists against European players…..

and like I already showed you (and I doubt you even bothered to check out that link I posted since I’m sure you don’t want me to burst your bubble) the NBA is the league hiring the highest number of minorities among its teams and in the league office as well..more than any other sport league in the U.S. so saying the NBA is the most racist just shows how ignorant you are..you clearly see what you want to see and you’re certainly not basing your opinions on FACTS..and if that was true that GM’s said “never draft a white guy”, then why so many of them draft white guys each and every year? And are GM’s, who are mostly WHITE, racist against people of their own race now? LOL, LMAO, LMFAO, ROFL.

    Ignorace is bliss.

One thing for U.S. fans..I guarantee you people like Apollo etc. and their views don’t represent the majority of basketball fans in Europe. I know most european basketball fans, as NBA fans, were very happy to see Team USA finally winning all over again in the 2008 Olympics and in the 2010 WC..they generally are everyone’s 2nd favorite team behind, obviously, their own national team (why do you think TV networks over here in Europe, other than games involving the local national team, always try to show as many Team USA games as possible?)…..those ones hating against Team USA are an EXTREMELY VOCAL minority who suffers an inferiority complex toward U.S. players and can’t accept the fact so many basketball fans drool over NBA players..hence, the criticism toward the NBA in a post like this one that had really nothing to do with the NBA.

I guess Apollo/Paul have/has also seen some of the xenophobic American fans (and sure, they do exist), or prominent people like Dick Vitale who (though not racist) are so suspicious of foreign-league players over players (foreign or not) who have gone through the US college system. They are definitely a vocal minority, and certainly not representative of the league or its fans generally.

NBA fans are mostly racists. Most of them hate against any player that is not black. All the people here that deny such things are liars. No denying this because it is truth. I am sure all these guys here that is claiming the NBA is not racist are either black or racist against whites or both. Gabe most obviously is a racist. He is the pure form of the typical and normal NBA fan. Making comments all the time that are racist against whites and even in the topic here he said what is obvious racist comment.

It is so funny that these racist NBA fans are of actual belief that all around the world NBA fans do not have such racist reputation. Because they do. NBA fans is always flooding all internet basketball sites with racist statements against white people. I would guess 90% of NBA fans are racists.

You don’t even know what a racist is. Calling a black player a monkey is racist. There is racism in the US and it is against blacks. The majority of NBA fans, just like the majority of Americans, are white. Blacks have suffered hundreds of years of racism in the United States and still do with more blacks living in poverty and incarcerated than white Americans. Sports, especially basketball is one of the few outlets in America that blacks excel in. Yes there is a stereotype that blacks are better athletes but that could be seen as racism against blacks because when a black is good we say he is athletic but with a white we say he is smart and has fundamentals. So just because you’re frustrated that Team USA is #1 again and that Europeans like Spanoulis and Jasikevicius couldn’t cut it in the NBA you should not make such stupid statements. Ask Nowitzki, the Gasol brothers, Kevin Love and Ginobli. And btw I am white and actually have a bias towards white players but my big bias is from players from the NYC area so calling me racist is stupid.

      ReplyCancel

Hey guys, check out this racist coverage of Dirk Nowitzki’s game last night by Dime Magazine: “Watching Dirk Nowitzki is amazing. Any daylight, and it’s automatic. He makes the most awkward shots look routine. Last night, he made the biggest plays in one of Dallas’ largest wins of the last few years. Clutch? Hell yes. Behind the German, Dallas stole Game 1, 96-94, their resilient attitude a roadmap to a potential upset.”

I’m actually starting to suspect that they’re just copying and pasting their own posts just to troll American fans. There’s no way these people can be serious, and there’s definitely no way any of them has ever attended an NBA game. Sport in general, and especially the NBA, is one of the things that bridges huge cultural divides in the US. You have farmboys in Indiana and kids in the ghetto in Compton cheering for the same teams and same players. Claiming that the NBA is racist is simply preposterous to anyone who has any real knowledge of the sport and of American society.

No, in reality you are racist. If you look as the playoffs most teams have at least one white guy on the floor at all times while players like Nowitzki and the Gasol brothers are major parts of their teams success. But the truth is basketball is a sport that blacks excel at and you guys can’t take the fact that black people dominate the top league in the world. You are the racist ones, calling black players “monkies” and calling Team USA “Team Africa”. The NBA judges people for their talent level and if you are a good player, no matter what color, you can play, just look at Kevin Love. It’s time to evolve past YOUR racism and judge players for their talent, not the colorof their skin.

NBA is not only racist, but its fans like this Gabe guy are racist to the core. With all their racist comments about how no one in Europe, “Euros” they call them (racist code word for white guy) could possibly be as good or athletic as any black player in the NBA.

All their BS about how the NBA is the superior league in the world because Team USA “dominates” all those Euro “scrubs”. All a bunch of racist code words for Team black guys are superior to team white guys.

Of course it means they are not only racist but also retarded. Because Team USA has never ever defeated, nor even played Team Europe in history. Team USA (which represents NBA) plays against INDIVIDUAL European countries, not against “Europe”, as the incredibly idiotic NBA fan base claims.

Spain, Lithuania, Greece, France, etc. do NOT represent “Europe” or the Euroleague like these idiots like Gabe claim. They represent just that one country. In fact racist morons like Gabe would claim a Team USA win over any European team proves the NBA is “better than Euroleague” even if not a single Euroleague players was on that team.

The truth is that if the NBA ever played against a Team EUROPE or if a Team NBA played against a Team Euroleague – the NBA/Team USA would get destroyed every time.

Anyone that can’t grasp that, and instead chooses to equate Spain or any other single national team with Europe, or even worse with Euroleague (when half the roster or more might not even play in Euroleague) is clearly a retarded person without any logic or basic reasoning skills.

A true pan European team would crush any Team USA or NBA team.

For these NBA fans to constantly and endlessly assert that Team USA beating individual national teams proves the NBA is better than the Euroleague, when only a truly retarded person could could ever come up with that is really undeniable proof of racism by NBA fans.

They ALL believe it. Never in my life have I ever met an NBA fan that did not believes this craziness. The ALL believe it. That is a true indication of racism being involved. All NBA fans in the US that have I ever met (many my own friends) are indeed racist like that.

They ALL believe that blacks are genetically superior to whites and better athletes, just like this racist scum bag Gabe brags about here in this site. And like all racists they are too stupid and ignorant and arrogant to even realize that what they say and believe is as racist as it gets.

NBA fans are basically a bunch of black supremacist eugenics believing racists.

This is why in the US NBA fans are so freaking hated by most other sports fans. I know that every single serious basketball guy I ever known liked the NCAA and hated the NBA with extreme passion. Precisely because of the incredible amount of racism that comes from the NBA fan base.

Right here in this topic, this Gabe has made numerous extremely offensive racist comments and he is proud of it and brags about it. He is a disgusting and pathetic individual, and he is definitely the typical NBA fan.

If you added up all the “monkey” chants in Europe together it would not equal the amount of racism from NBA fans in a single day that is posted to realgm, com, insidehoops.com and other such NBA fan sites.

Anyone that isn’t racist is absolutely disgusted by the amount of racism that is posted to such NBA fan sites on a daily basis. And it is just freaking hilarious that this Phileus guy thinks racism can’t be against whites somehow. And that the NBA isn’t racist because it has so many blacks.

A league with 90% blacks where a country has only 20% blacks……..that IS racist. That is probably the most racist employer in the USA. They are by definition and fact racist against all people that are not black.

And as for this hilarity about “they market the white NBA fan base”………….oh really? Yeah, you must have an IQ of about 65.

As an American and basketball fan, it really pisses me off that people like this post all their racist crap all over the internet making it look like all American basketball fans are racist like they are. And the fact that they have the balls and audacity to come to a European site and do it like Gabe is just downright freaking ridiculous.

I think it’s also also black strength but white resources. If Nigeria had the same resources (money) to put into basketball as the United States our Europe they would be a power. It depends on the sport. Black Americans are the best at basketball and track and field (well for track and field include black Canadians and Jamaicans). Whites are best at hockey (Canadians Scandinavians) , swimming. Kenyans best at marathons, Japanese best (or one of the best) at baseball. Europeans and Brazilians the best at soccer, etc…

Erik totally owned Gabe in this thread and really embarrassed the hell out of him. He laid out the exact reasons why NBA fans are generally such total douche bags. Anyone that can read through the comments by NBA fans and not see that 95% of them are extremely racist is a complete idiot.

For whatever reason, the USA has decided that the sport of basketball belongs only to blacks and American blacks sure the hell defend that position with everything they have. Spouting off their racist remarks about basketball all over the internet.

One of the worst ever for me was during the NBA dunk contest when Kenny Smith and Reggie Miller were saying that Rudy Fernandez could not jump high enough because he was white. Just saying it right on TNT and got away with it.

If some white guy said something like that against a black guy on TV he would be lucky if he was even alive the next day. The blacks in America can keep their Team “USA”, which is really Team Black America and they can keep their NBA which stands for Nothing But Africans. The whole thing has become such a ridiculous joke to anyone with half a brain. The league is obviously rigged anyway. It’s just a big propaganda marketing scheme for the companies like Nike to sell shoes to those black kids – you know that “white NBA fan base” as these racist jerks call it.

The same with team USA. The last Olympics and World Championship were so rigged it was laughable. The black racist jerks like Gabe are over the internet anywhere there is a basketball forum and they all spread around there racist hatred against whites, Asians -anyone that isn’t black with their “blacks are stronger, bigger, taller, faster, quicker, more athletic, more explosive than whites” shtick. The best one is the Team USA myths and legends that Gabe here seems to like to use.

The 2008 Olympics and 2010 World Basket were rigged in favor of the US. Anyone that saw those tournaments and comes to any conclusion other than that has zero credibility. Again, it is all just marketing for companies like Gatorade, Nike, Reebok, whatever. Basketball at the senior FIBA level stopped being a real competition years ago. As for the NBA, it is much closer to the WWE than to any actual sports competition.

But yeah, “blacks are physically superior to whites” and anyone that argues with that or questions it, like Erik did is a racist according to Gabe, who is also a “white guy” himself. It’s really getting time that this reverse racism against whites in the US is put to a stop because it is seriously getting way out of hand.

I bet if a white person talked that way about blacks all the time on the internet that charges would be brought against them. But say racist things against whites, and it is just “normal conversation”.

NBA commissioners are white, most referees are white, most owners are white, most agents are white, most fans (including international fans) are not black…

Your argument that “all NBA fans” or “the NBA in general” or “95% of the NBA” is racist is just wrong. It’s not rooted in reality. It’s factually incorrect. That’s the end of the discussion.

You’re talking passionately, but ignorantly, about a subject that you have no real firsthand experience with. There are definitely racist fans and commentators on the NBA — just like there are racist fans and commentators in the Euroleague. But they are not the majority in the NBA, for sure. And, unlike you, since I have no direct experience with the Euroleague, I wouldn’t claim that all Euroleague fans are anti-black or even anti-USA, even though your posts might make me think that.

Since you are not American, have never lived in America, or spoken to regular American basketball fans, let me try to explain something to you. Only a racist (or xenophobic non-American) would call it “Team Black USA.” Most American fans (all the fans that I know) don’t care if America’s representatives (or President!) are black. They’re American. When players join Team USA, they represent the whole country, not just the blacks in the country. As I said before, sport is one of the most racially unifying institutions in the USA, one where racism really has no place and is not tolerated.

If you think Team USA is a racist national team, please tell me which white players from Team USA (whose coaches were white, by the way) were wrongfully excluded based on race. I hate to say it, but the way you speak really makes me think that Gabe is correct — maybe anti-black fans in Europe, who think it’s fine to call blacks “monkeys,” were just infuriated that their national teams were beaten by a mostly-black team.

Lastly, maybe you think “white men can’t jump” is racist, and I can sort of understand why. But in reality, it’s only a joke and rarely a serious remark — even the movie with this title was making a joke out of the phrase. It reminds me of Spain doing the “slanted eyes” picture in 2008. In America, that’s an extremely racist gesture, but apparently in Europe (or at least Spain), it’s not. It’s the same cultural difference of interpretation.

I tried to be polite and reasonable in this response, maybe you can try to be also.

Phileus, it’s obvious these people are racist. Just like the birthers in the USA who can’t accept that we have a black president so they come up with an insane conspiracy theory that he is a Muslim born in Kenya who plans to destroy the country from within, these people can’t accept that the USA (with mostly black players) is the Olympic and World Champions and that the NBA (which is mostly black as well) is the top league in the world so they come up with this crazy conspiracy theater that FIBA and the NBA is rigged to sell shoes and gatoraid to black kids in the ghetto because they realized behind closed doors that if they fix the games to let blacks win they could market to black America who have more money to spend than white america or europe or asia, etc..

Real talk: Rudy Fernandez is arguably the most athletic Euro wing to come into the NBA in a long time, and thanks to his talents (and those of RIcky Rubio), DKV Joventut dominated European basketball.

But the simple fact is that there are literally hundreds of young American kids who have the exact same skill set as Rudy. And yes, most of those kids are black. Who cares?

While were on the subject, Ricky has been the subject of a lot of hype and Im not sure if hell be able to live up to all of it if he does end up going over to the NBA. Great point guard, great court leader, but can he stay in front of NBA-level point guards night in night out? I’m not sure. Does that make me racist?

You might not believe it, but there are black players who are also a bit slow, or who dont jump so high. (Not every 5 is Dwight Howard, for example.) And there are white players whose fundamentals or “Basketball IQ” is lacking. (anyone help me out with an example here?) Again, who cares?

It’s official: Apollo, Paul, Erik, Erik is right, Yeah NBA is racist and, maybe, Mika are the exact same person who’s posting under different usernames..LOL

Seriously, the NBA isn’t paying us to defend it..we’re just using common sense, which is something you don’t have.

How about Dirk Nowitzky? The U.S. media and fans are drooling over him right now..didn’t you say NBA fans/media were racists?

I was watching the Euroleague championship game and at halftime the Italian TV interviewed RC Buford, the GM of the Spurs. Among the things he said, he praised european players…I thought NBA GM’s were racists against euros..guess not!!

And if you bothered to click the link I posted a few days ago, you would’ve seen the NBA is the most diverse sports league in the U.S. and the league hires the highest number of minorities to work in its offices, both at the league and teams level, more than any other sport league in the U.S…racist, my a$$….

and most NBA fans are white, so if they were racists I’m quite sure they wouldn’t watch a 70%-black league, don’t you think? If you want to hate on racists, then hate on those ones who refuse to watch the NBA because most players are blacks and can’t handle watching black athletes, not NBA fans..I’m an NBA fan and I’m NOT a racist….is it frickin’ clear, you idiot???????!?!?!?!?!??????? (I rarely call people names, but I’ve lost it in your case).

Again, U.S. fans….you’re dealing with a very vocal minority..most fans are not like him, who’s such a coward he needs to post under different usernames…

    Definition of “Troll”:

“In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.”

I think it’s quite obvious “Apollo, Erik, Erik is right etc.” is a troll..this post had nothing to do with the NBA (it was about the Greek League), yet he turned it into an anti-NBA discussion….and he’s clearly provoking emotional responses from other people, thus disrupting normal on-topic discussion, which should have centered around the Greek League and its issues, certainly not the NBA’s.

I’d also add to the above definition that trolls usually change their usernames, too, in order to sound more credible and to make people believe there are many ppl out there sharing his/her point of view.

I officially call BS on you.

^ Yeah, can you imagine if the ones doing that were Team USA players? Apollo, Erik etc. (who, once again, is the same person) would go out of their (his) way to call them racists…..his hypocrisy is UNREAL…….looks to me he’s the racist one, not us NBA fans.

By reading his posts I must have loss countless brain cells.

Bunch of anti white racists here, pretending to be nothing but real NBA fans. The best one is the can’t stand that the US elected a black man as President comment……..

Yeah buddy ONLY racists say that. In case your RACIST mind is not capable of grasping it, Barack Obama ain’t black. He is half white and half black. In no country in the world does that make him a black other than the extremely RACIST USA with the old one drop law rule.

People like this Gabe are a disease and cancer against the good of the world.

I read up at a Real GM and Inside Hoops just to see and there was so much damn racist crap being said there it was unreal. Nothing but a bunch of racist blacks making racist comments about whites, Jews, and Asians on both sites. I saw the same things at Spurs Talk and at Clutch Fans

The amount of racist comments at the Real GM and Inside Hoops sights was just incredible and it was always directed against non black peoples. It seems that the average black in the USA is now the most racist of all the demo groups. I guarantee that every guy defending the NBA and the racist black fans of it are black and are racists that hate white people because they have an incredibly huge inferiority complex.

At those sites were even dozens of black guys bragging about how black girls are all so ugly and all they do is have sex with the pretty white girls and how the “whiteys” can’t get any from them because they have smaller penises and all kinds of such racist hatred.

Seriously, the racist black NBA fans can go to hell and GTFO this European forum.

Very interesting. Did you know that the best current player in the world is Juan Carlos Navarro ?

MVP of NBA final this year Dirk Nowitzki ? What about Peja Stojakovic, Steve Nash, Larry Bird, RIcky Rubio, Pau Gasol, Memet Okur, Vlade Divac, Dejan Bodiroga, Drazen Petrovic ?

Everybody knows that in NBA, there is not a strong defense, that’s why the scores are high, and when the Lakers go in Europe to play again Panathinaikos or Barcelona, they loose, because in Europe our game is strong, nobody is going on one side to let Lebron James doing his “show” and having “good stats”.

I love NBA, I used to do it, but it is for show and see all the best players in the world, not to watch a tournament competitive where all the players are doing their best to keep the ball, and steal it, because that’s not NBA !

You’re joking Juan Carlos Navarro? He’s not even in the top 30. He won Eurobasket MVP because of Pau Gasol. When Navarro played on the same team without Gasol in the World Championships Spain placed 6th with a 5-4 record and two of those wins were against were against Lebanon and Canada. As for the Lakers losing to Barcelona in their home arena by four points, and they never lost to Panathinaikos, before that game, NBA teams had beaten Euroleague 19 times in a row so it’s not even close.
