Italian NT coach to stay

September 24, 2007

If you open an Italian newspaper today you can read this in the sports section:

“During the past weekend, the Italian Basketball Federation Board agreed to confirm coach Carlo Recalcati as the Senior National Team Head Coach and Main Player Selector for the upcoming two seasons, together with all his staff.”

Are you surprised? Well I guess it depends on the country you are from. There are all kind of mentalities how to handle with coaches – I like then one Italy just showed.

If you don’t meet the goals you set for yourself and your national team it is hard to get fans, and officials behind you to keep your job. The national team got all kind of star potential, starting with Belinelli and Bargnani. By the way Italy is one of the better leagues in Europe too so everybody thought they will make it to the Olympics. They did not.

They reason why they still went with Recalcati?

“No one could make so better than Recalcati did, with the current group of players available for Team Italy”

I wish some other countries in any sport would follow the same rules sometimes.
