Game three a matter of life and death for Caja Laboral Baskonia players

June 15, 2010

Ribas on the verge of life, death

“Ask for me tomorrow and you shall find me a grave man.” – Mercutio, Romeo & Juliet, Act 3, scene 1

How serious is Caja Laboral Baskonia, on the verge of one most excellent ACB championship series sweep over Euroleague champions FC Barcelona? Check out a couple of quotes taken down after a Baskonia practice session and posted over at the league’s official website.

Here’s Pau Ribas, he who stole Ricky Rubio’s inbound pass to complete Baskonia’s game two win: “We must be calm, our lives are at stake, but we’re [also] on the verge of death. We have many options.” (“Debemos estar tranquilos, nos jugamos la vida, pero no estamos al borde de la muerte. Tenemos muchas opciones.”)

Fernando San Emeterio, who avoided goatdom when his flagrant foul on Barça’s preceding inbound pass was made irrelevant with the Ribas steal, added “It should be clear that is a great team and we can win, but we will fight to death for this title.” (“Hay que tener claro que viene un equipazo y que nos puede ganar, pero nosotros vamos a ir a muerte por este título.”)

How serious? Deathly serious, BiE’d say.
