Reactions to the Top 16 draw: Group G

February 7, 2008

When I read the reactions of coaches, players and general managers of the Euroleague I kind of felt this is like our Euroleague prediction contest, isn’t it? Lets take a look at some of the reactions a little bit closer.

AXA FC Barcelona general manager Zoran Savic says: “We could have imagined the composition of our group before the draw, but now it’s clear. This is a tough group, but it may become easy in the near future. I think that Groups D and E are more difficult than the other two.”

on the other side, head coach Ettore Messina of CSKA Moscow thinks: “We ended up in a very difficult group” and goes on “I feel there is a little misbalance between our part of the league and the first two groups. But we knew our way to the final stages of the Euroleague could not be an easy one. I hope strong rivals would push our players mentally.”

while Juan Manuel Rodriguez, Unicaja‘s Sports Director is quoted: “I think that we have not been lucky, because we are in a tough group with CSKA Moscow, Barcelona and Lottomatica Roma.”

and finally Lottomatica Roma head coach Jasmin Repesa adds: “CSKA Moscow are a team made up to win the Euroleague. They are very strong and have great talent, but that doesn’t mean we will go to Moscow for our opening game showing a white flag.”

Lets send out the awards for this Group G. The being funny award goes to Jasmin Repesa for the “white flag thing”. While everybody thinks that CSKA Moscow will be the team to beat in this group, their head coach hopes to make the Top 8 at all .. Heads up Ettore, we all think you will make it, don’t worry 😉

Seems that Messina knows some things we don’t. CSKA just got trashed by Khimki in the Cup final. Really trashed…
