Stop the press: New Ricky Rubio YouTube clips

May 22, 2010

Said it before and i’ll probably say it again: It wouldn’t be BallinEurope in 2009-10 without the Ricky Rubio obsession. A couple of new highlight videos are here for your perusal, all confirming the appropriateness of BiE’s moniker for the man, the Human YouTube Clip.

Abandon all disbelief, ye who enter here, the Church of Rubio…

First up is the ACB-crafted collection of Rubio’s best assists from the 2009-10 season. As the man says, “¡espectacular!

The second clip comes courtesy of the folks at Rubio’s Página Oficial, is a four-minute clip taken during a visit to the Campus Ricky Rubio by the ACB’s point guard of the year.

Presumably, the Nike co-sponsored Rubio Campus will be starting up again in July; with Rubio between ACB and FIBA World Championship play, he could well be available to thrill the youngsters seeking the become the next generation of scary Team Spain basketballers. Also soccer, handball, tennis, and volleyball.

The video in question runs below. Sorry, Minnesota Timberwolves fans and general thrillseekers, there’s really nothing you can use here. Though if anyone knows Bill Simmons, please turn him on to this video; with the accompanying soundtrack, this might rank well on the man’s “unintentional comedy” scale.

Incidentally, Rubio and his FC Barcelona mates tore apart Gran Canaria 2014 last night, 85-53, in game one of their quarterfinal-round playoff series. Playing just 18-1/2 minutes in the laugher, Rubio contributed three points, five assists and three rebounds. Does he get into the official highlight video? Sure!

Is there a reason why this site posts all of Rubio’s youtube clips and never does this for any other players? Rubio gets a youtube clip and it’s on this website. Other European players only get a clip posted if there is a specific blog article about them.

Seriously, this Rubio hype is getting a bit ridiculous.
