Settle debts – the Serbian way

May 29, 2009

The financial crisis is hitting harder and harder and teams have serious trouble to pay the salaries of their players. Today, we got the information about a funny story for us but a very serious issue for Vladimir Masulovic, Serbian Center and former player of Crvena Zvezda.

Vladimir Mašulović, played for the team of Crvena Zvezda back in 2002-2003. He was considered back then as a promising player at the Center position. However, the team did not pay him his full salary back then and Masulovic wanted to get his money. He went to court with the whole story and a recent ruling said that Crvena Zvedza has to pay him his debt in 4 stretches. The first payment has been done for the January to April period, but since then, Masulovic did not get any money. So he got proposed to get a compensation in naturals, take away the baskets owned by Crvena Zvedza which are part of the street-ball courts in the city centre of Belgrade.

In the fortress of Kalemegdan, Red Star and Partizan Belgrade have basketball courts with high-quality baskets. Masulovic told the press that he wanted to talk with the management about the matter but nobody was answering on this anymore. Red Star coach Svetislav Pesic was not very happy about this whole story so that he proposed to take over the whole debt from his own pocket in order to keep the story from the press. Masulovic went to the fortress in Belgrade with people representing the law court of Serbia but he decided to wait until the of the Serbian Finals between Partizan and Red Star.

Now today, he came back to Kalemegdan with attorneys to seal the deal and take away all 6 baskets. Red Star officials knew about Masulovic’ intention to do so but they did not react. Even the previous intervention of Pesic did not help as he never came back to that idea and Masulovic was still waiting for his money. The Serbian Center is now the proud owner of 6 competition baskets which he can do with whatever he wants.

A video of the whole action can be found here.

You shoud tell enire true .
Pesic promised to pay 25.000 euros but he only promised, the same did club.
The issue is how saddenly club got mony for competiotion and not for previous debts.
I think that FIBA must intervene in such as cases and ban club to play, because it is not only one case in European basketball.
Anyway, Masulovic has a right to pick up baskets, because he won verdict and club owe mony to him.

So how they have mony to compete,, it;s very odd statement.

“Red Star coach Svetislav Pesic was not very happy about this whole story so that he proposed to take over the whole debt from his own pocket in order to keep the story from the press”…..
Thats bull sh……from pesic. He is the same people like Red Star management.
If he promissed, why he didn’t pay?
