Sofoklis to return to L.A. for another shot at NBA

June 20, 2010

Look out, Las Vegas!

BallinEurope favorite Sofoklis Schortsanitis may soon be getting another chance to stick with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to Greece-based Sport Net and fellow ESPN TrueHoop Networker the ClipperBlog.

Sofoklis will be heading to Los Angeles “in the next few days” to discuss contract terms. Clippers management is apparently emphatic about putting “Baby Shaq” through the paces: “…we intend to [play] him in the Summer League in Las Vegas if we secure his signature” on a new contract (“…Του προσφέρουν μάλιστα εγγυημένο συμβόλαιο δυο ετών, με οψιόν ανανέωσης για ακόμη ένα.”).

Sport Net went on to report that the Olympiacos front office is attempting to form a new contract with Schortsanitis, whose current deal with the Reds expires this month.

Schortsanitis was selected by the Clippers in the second round of the 2003 NBA Draft. He played with the team in preseason games in October last year before returning to Olympiacos in an option year.

He can’t play in the NBA Summer League if he wants to be a part of Greece’s national team at the FIBA World Championship. These NBA teams are so extremely arrogant. Asking a guy to play at a level lower than the second division in Greece and miss the biggest FIBA tournament just because they “want to see him”.

These NBA teams are too much.

@ Michael: That’s what i was thinking, kind of. Unless this is an indication that Sofoklis doesn’t want to play with Team Greece at the Worlds…?

tobias, do you think this is the beginning of more european basketball players from greek and spanish teams joining the NBA because of Greece and Spain’s financial crisis?
