Los Angeles Clippers dither, rumors say Sofoklis to Panathinaikos

July 21, 2010

After suiting up for the Los Angeles Clippers’ summer league team and getting a lot of flirtatious advances from Clipper management, the NBA outfit has apparently dithered on actually offering Sofoklis Schortsanitis a contract. The team has stated that they are interested in Big Sofo, but would only sign him after the Clippers have finished their offseason free-agent signings.

That bad decision — c’mon, are the Clippers’ doors really being beaten down by players dying to jog the floor with Baron Davis? — was chased up by another: Greece-based Sports.gr reports that a Sunday meeting with Schortsanitis simply never happened. (“Really? The Clippers front office?” BiE can hear you exclaim. “Inconceivable!”)

Sports.gr goes on to report that Sofoklis is in “advanced negotiations” with Panathinaikos, and the proposed contract is well more than the Clippers’ last offer.

Schortsanitis played in four NBA Summer League games for the Clippers, averaging 2.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in just over 13 minutes per game.

It’s done. All that is left is the official signing and announcement.
