Steal this column

April 23, 2017

We’re big in Panama…or rather some folks in Panama like us…or possibly Bulgaria. In short, some people are stealing BallinEurope’s content so we’ve decided to respond as best we know, by messing with them in every manner we can think of

A recurring issue for BallinEurope for as long as I can recall is the wholesale lifting of content from this site. That is, to put it simply, there are two sites (which I’m deliberately not linking to) that copy literally every article, video, and image posted right here on BiE. Now I could follow the excellent work carried out by my nearish neighbour Sam Tranum (hi Sam) who is part of Dublin Inquirer and had a similar issue so he put together this great little ditty called Sam: Steal this article.

I’m not going to though because unlike Sam, I don’t actually know who my target is. I don’t have a specific name or address. Fortunately, in this beautiful world of the interwebs, I don’t need to.

As I explain in the above video, we’ve decided to just mess with these eejits. Actually, I should probably rephrase that as this is literally going to appear on both sites within minutes of going up…and those I will screengrab I promise.

Greetings Panamaian/Bulgarian thieving jabronis. You are taking my content and up until now I was willing to look on you as mere pests. You were irritants unworthy of my time. Then, well then your completely unauthorised use of my content actually got on my nerves.

So here’s the deal. I can, and probably will, hit up some legal representation but there are lots of other things I can do between now and then to get on your nerves which are…and this is the part I love…completely legal. So, you’ve really got two choices. Either you scrub all of the content taken from this site from your two sites and, because I’m due it, apologise or I do what I do best which is mess with jabronis just because I can and raze your social media presences with so many DMCA notices you’re going to learn what those letters stand for in English, Spanish, Bulgarian, and whatever else you might speak.
