That time MacGyver rode a coffin down the Spree

It’s the rest day at the final four and it’s going to be late, if at all, before I write anything basketball related today.

Instead I’m dropping a piece of pop culture that was set not too far from the arena. In a first season episode of MacGyver, the eponymous hero was being smuggled from East Berlin into West Berlin when he got rumbled and managed an escape so improbable it could only have happened in an episode of MacGyver.

A couple of fun things to note. Some of you may not be aware but they did eventually reveal MacGyver’s first name, it was Angus. The more fun thing to note is that almost all of the footage in the clip above, literally anything without MacGyver on screen, is stolen from a scene in Funeral in Berlin, a Michael Caine film you really ought to see. It’s the secret to The Ipcress File, also awesome, with Caine at his most badass as Harry Palmer. As it’s rest day in Euroleague look up Funeral in Berlin and watch it.
