Turkish Tourism Minister brings playoff action to Germany

April 21, 2009

The Basketball on (free) TV situation in Germany has been disastrous over the last years. For years, no German Bundesliga could be followed live, and even the NBA has disappeared totally from TV this season. Though you can watch BBL games through the pay-per-view/Internet TV channel Sportdigital.tv, for most of the German fans this meant 0n basketball on TV.

Now today came the big surprise that Eurosport Germany, which is freely available on Astra Satellite, will broadcast 10 Bundesliga playoff games. The Turkish Tourism Ministry proudly presents the games; Murat Didin, the Turkish coach from Deutsche Bank Skyliners, may one of the reasons for this big news.

In fact, Deutsche Bank Skyliners has a good link to the German subsidiary of Eurosport, as they have broadcast Frankfurt’s European games for several seasons. Now it’s the Turkish taxpayer, through the official tourism board, that is financing the presence of Bundesliga basketball on German free TV. So you can imagine that Murat Didin’s team will be present in several of the games selected.

Check here for the dates if you would like to follow the playoffs from the league that features the most US-born players after the NBA. Additionally, Eurosport will begin coverage of the German Bundesliga on April 25th with a regular season game between WALTER Tigers Tübingen and EWE Baskets Oldenburg. And guess what: The coach of Tübingen is one Tolga Öngören, from Turkey.
