Eurocup game three: Besiktas’ first must-win of 2010-11

It may seem early on in the 2010-11 season (heck, it’s not even December), but Allen Iverson and his Beşiktaş Cola Turka squad play what appears to be a must-win tonight, as the Eagles face 2009-10 Euroleague competitor Asvel Basket in Villeurbanne, France. Beşiktaş has already dropped its first two Eurocup games within Group B […]

Talking Turkoglu: Considering Hedo’s career moves, position in Phoenix

After seeing the new starting lineup for the Phoenix Suns against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday – featuring Hakim Warrick on the floor for the opening tipoff and Hedo Turkoglu back to his familiar role coming in off the bench, BallinEurope got to thinking about the well-traveled Turk and his effect on various teams as […]

European vocation: American ballers Sylven Landesberg, Terrell Myers on transition abroad

The first episode in season two of “Inside Israeli Basketball” came out last week, running on Comcast Sports stations in the ‘States. Once again the season’s premier chapter mostly focused on Eurochallenge competitor Maccabi Haifa and a name player: This year, however, the team is not about a 17-year-old Jeremy Tyler leaving high school to […]

Beşiktaş Cola Turka, 94-85: Iverson contributes 14/8, notches first European win

Beşiktaş Cola Turka got big performances from Mire Chatman and Fedor Likholitov, while Allen Iverson dominated the first half on offense to help the Eagles win their first game, 94-85 over Trabzonspor, since Mr. Answer joined the squad. Iverson’s line ended up showing 14 points and 8 assists contributed – and all but three of […]

Iverson watch: Kevin Wildes' two cents; Besiktas vs. Trabzonsor today

How sad to wake up on Saturday morning and have an otherwise excellent-as-ever Bill Simmons NFL picks column interrupted by one harsh bummer of an assessment from an eyewitness in Turkey: “[ESPN’s Kevin Wildes – you know, the dude that had Simmons’ ‘Book of Basketball’ shot on national TV] attended an Allen Iverson game in […]

Allen Iverson interview: European fans are great, winning top priority

Germany-based sportswriter David Hein, who contributed a very nice report to BallinEurope on last night’s BG Göttingen-Beşiktaş Cola Turka match in Germany, has just posted the transcript of his interview with the man himself, Allen Iverson. The heinnews website scored quite a lengthy talk with Mr. Answer and got the former NBAer’s viewpoint on whether […]

BG Göttingen 85, Beşiktaş Cola Turka 83: Iverson lives up to star billing, goes for 18 points

BallinEurope buddy David Hein, hardworking Germany-based sportswriter and brain behind heinnews.com, traveled to Braunschweig last night (lucky bastard) to witness Allen Iverson’s professional debut in Deutschland, as Mr. Answer’s Beşiktaş Cola Turka took on BG Göttingen in game two of 2010-11 Eurocup play. This morning, Hein sent us this dispatch from a nail-biter of a […]

Team anthems: Brose Baskets metal sound, Valencia's new wave tenor

BiE’s said it before and BiE’ll say it again: American sports fans are really missing out with the whole fan anthem thing… Over on Facebook, the Euroleague official page has gifted its listeners with a pair of fight songs for the squads. Musical homages to Brose Baskets Bamberg and Valencia – believe it or not, […]

Marquez Haynes, dunksmith of France

Days later and the internet is still loaded with chatter about Blake Griffin’s monster dunks perpetuated against the New York Knicks this weekend (okay, so they were pretty badass buckets), but rookie Marquez Haynes of Chalon/Saône may be making himself a name as the dunksmith of France with some insane hops in evidence lately. Haynes, […]

Fenerbahçe Ülker, 74-67: Beşiktaş, Iverson lose again with fourth-quarter stall

Allen Iverson remains oh-for-Europe after his first TBL game with Beşiktaş Cola Turka, a 74-67 loss to Euroleague squad Fenerbahçe Ülker. More distressing for Beşiktaş was another disappointing fourth quarter: The Eagles entered the last stanza tied at 53, only to be outplayed and outscored by Fenerbahçe, 21-14 over the final 10 minutes. In general, […]

Timofey Mozgov = Fred Weis; Blake Griffin = awesome

Since this thing has got everyone from ESPN ‘heads to DJ Steve Porter talking, sure, BiE’ll repost: From the epic (not) New York Knicks-Los Angeles Clippers game last night, Timofey Mozgov becomes Fred Weis 2.0 as Blake Griffin totally goes Vinsanity on his lane-clogging butt. How do you say “d’oh!” in Russian? For good measure, […]
