EuroBasket GotD – Germany vs Slovenia

September 6, 2022

Every day throughout the group phase of EuroBasket 2022, we’ll select our game of the day that is a must-watch for all basketball fans. For Day 6, it’s unbeaten Germany taking on a Slovenia team aiming to bounce back after defeat to Bosnia

The Game
Germany vs Slovenia, 6 September, Group B

Where?
Lanxess Arena, Cologne, Germany.

When?
19.30 CEST, 18.30 BST, 13.30 EST, 10.30 PST

Why this game?
Germany have been mightily impressive through three games at EuroBasket with wins over France, Bosnia, and Lithuania and Franz Wagner has been the star of the show. Slovenia looked to be off to just as bright a start but hit a big speed bump when they fell to Bosnia on Sunday. Now, Luka Doncic and Goran Dragic are out to get back on track and potentially take top spot in the group.

What do the bookies say?
Slovenia are favourites here at 29/50 while Germany are 17/10. The point spread favours Slovenia at -4.5.

What do we say?
This game is going to be compelling and Slovenia know that defeat here could really hurt their seeding in the knockout stages. As one of the tournament favourites, that simply won’t do. Germany however survived a Lithuania team with even more motivation on Sunday and won’t let the occasion get to them in any way. I’m expecting this one to be really tight but it’s hard to see Luka Doncic having quite the same shooting struggles as he did against Bosnia and that might well be the difference.

The pick
I’m taking Slovenia straight up and the spread is tight but I’ll back them to cover as well.

Current pick record: 7-4 straight up and 5-6 ATS
