Preview – Italy vs Croatia

September 6, 2022

It’s the sixth day of EuroBasket 2022 and the fourth day of action in Group C in Milan. The day’s play ends with hosts Italy taking on Croatia.

Where and when?
Mediolanum Forum, Milan, Italy. Tip off: 21.00 CEST, 20.00 BST, 15.00 EST, 12.00 PST

Record to date
Italy 1-2 (W vs Estonia, L vs Greece, L vs Ukraine)
Croatia 2-1 (L vs Greece, W vs Great Britain, W vs Estonia)

What do the bookies say?
Italy are narrow favourites at 7/10 with Croatia priced at 6/5 while the spread has Italy as -2 favourites.

What do we say?
Croatia’s rough first halves are the big factor to watch for here. Their chemistry has been improving over the course of the tournament but they’ve repeatedly left themselves with a lot of work to do coming out of halftime.

Italy now need to show if their comeback against Greece was just a flash in the pan because of an emotional crowd or if it was their performance against Ukraine that was the aberration. The pressure on both camps will be high as Italy need a W to finish higher than 4th in the group while Croatia have a strong shot at second and, if Ukraine upset Greece, a chance at top spot. Defeat for Croatia and they’re the ones staring a possible brutal draw in the knockout phase.

The pick
Croatia straight up. It’s a tough one but might as well go for the big one.
