Highlights: Round-up from the Irish Cup semi finals

January 12, 2015

It was a big weekend in Irish basketball as UCD Marian and UCC Demons booked their spots in the men’s cup final while DCU Mercy and the gloriously named Team Montenotte Hotel secured spots in the women’s decider. We’ve highlights from all four teams semi final victories here for those who missed our live broadcast on Friday night.

2011 champions UCD Marian booked their spot in the men’s decider overcoming a third quarter rally by 2012 winners UL Eagles to pull through 81-70. Check out a big dunk by Preston Ross at the tail end of the video.

What’s that about European point guards not dunking? Kyle Hosford had a couple of jams for UCC Demons as they recovered from a rough start to trounce Swords Thunder 95-70.

It was a nail-biter in the first women’s semi final as Killester edged UL Huskies 68-67 to book their spot in the final.

Reigning women’s cup champions Team Montenotte Hotel were forced to work for their place in the decider, eventually overcoming DCU Mercy 71-65.

We’ll be at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght on the 24th to cover both finals and I’ll probably do a drunk journalism piece afterwards.
