I jump, you jump, we all jump for iJump (basketball conditioning app)

August 1, 2012

Now here’s an interesting little item for your smartphone: From BallinEurope’s friends at Ganon Baker Basketball comes the iJump App, a nice bit of software that seeks to improve your vertical leap through a series of workouts.

Specializing in individual and team training, camps and instructional DVDs, Ganon Baker teamed with conditioning coach Alan Stein (see more on Stein below) to create the application, described as a “dynamic workout that is specifically designed to improve your vertical jump, first step and explosiveness.” Specifically addressed beyond sheer improvement of the vertical jump are the concepts of “air control” and the all-important first step.

iJump can also track your workouts and (hopefully) your progress through the program.

Now in existence for over a decade, Ganon Baker Basketball is known for its high-powered NBA colleagues, partners and endorsers. the iJump program is no exception as the first (free!) PDF file in the series features a program Amare Stoudamire put through the paces in the last offseason. Click on the graphic below to download the freebie and get some idea of what the iJump’s all about.

As for the aforementioned Mr. Stein, he’s primarily known as the owner of basketball-specific strength & conditioning specialists Stronger Team and as strength & conditioning coach for Maryland-based DeMatha Catholic High School basketball. Lew Alcindor’s former school was named by Sports Illustrated as America’s no. 2 high school athletic program in 2005 and 2007, while the basketball program has taken the state title six of the past eight years.
