Spanish president congratulates champions Halcón Avenida

April 18, 2011

For posterity’s sake, BallinEurope.com passes on the message from Spanish president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero sent to the new Euroleague Women champions, Halcón Avenida, which defeated Sparta & K last weekend for its first-ever Continental title. The telegram (really?) read as follows.

Dear friends,

I would like to convey my warmest congratulations to you on having won the European Basketball Champions Cup by beating the defending champions, Spartak Moscow. With this victory, women’s basketball has once again carried Spanish sport to the top step on the European victory podium. It is a triumph for which we can all be proud and I offer you my sincerest congratulations.

Extremely well done.

José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero
President of the Government
