Translate this, says Obradovic

December 14, 2010

Could this be the Greek version of “Practice??!!??!?!” While we all love to dig on those outrageous blowups of coaches or athletes routinely getting repeat views and remixes on boob tube and YouTube, in Europe there’s at least one sort of person who doesn’t: The interpreters.

One particularly long-suffering translator working with Panathinaikos coach Zeljko Obradovic has been YouTubed again, thanks to Obradovic’ mighty rant, including laugh-inducing reference to his player Mike Batiste as a “wanker,” in the official Euroleague pregame press conference last Thursday.

Rather than just a random potshot – though it seemed as though the coach really wanted to apply the epithet to journalists asking what he considered repetitive questions about meaningless scandal – Obradovic was answering a query about Batiste’s infamous headstomp of Ozbolt earlier this season.
