EuroBasket GotD – Lithuania vs Germany

September 3, 2022

Every day throughout the group phase of EuroBasket 2022, we’ll select our game of the day that is a must-watch for all basketball fans. For Day 4, it’s a returning name from Day 3 as Lithuania are in big trouble while Germany can remove all doubt about qualification with a win

The Game
Lithuania vs Germany, 4 September, Group B.

Where?
Lanxess Arena, Cologne, Germany

When?
14.30 CEST, 13.30 BST, 08.30 EST, 05.30 PST

Why this game?
Germany has impressed mightily in its opening two wins of Group B and a win here would not just put them through to the last 16 leave them odds on for a favourable seeding going into it. That’s quite a tasty opportunity when you get to play the whole tournament in front of your home fans.

Lithuania meanwhile are in trouble. They’re 0-2 and need to start picking up Ws. While they’ll be favoured against Hungary, as it stands they’re staring down a potential nightmare match-up in the last 16 if they even find a way to progress. Going to 0-3 would be a national catastrophe.

What do the bookies say?
Lithuania are favourites despite their rough start at 67/100 while Germany are 3/2. The points spread favours Lithuania at -3.5.

What do we say?
Lithuania have looked good but not good enough through two games. Germany have looked extremely polished. That Lithuania are favoured by the bookies is honestly a surprise because they’ve yet to close the deal here but the German hype machine probably is in need of some light deflation before the challenge of Slovenia. When two evenly matched teams face off, the one that needs it a lot more tends to be who I back.

The pick
Lithuania to win straight up.

Current EuroBasket 2022 pick record: 4-2 straight up and 4-2 ATS
